Family Law FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

How long does a divorce take?

A straight forward uncontested divorce will usually take between 4 and 6 months. This can vary depending on whether you have financial matters to resolve. Please contact our family law team term for more information.

Does a divorce resolve finances too?

No, this has to be done separately. Financial claims which married couples have by virtue of their marriage are not extinguished when a marriage ends. Your financial claims need to be terminated by a court order – which can be done either by agreement or as a result of commencing Ancillary Relief proceedings.

What is residence?

Residence is a term used to describe with whom a child should live

Can I change my name?

Yes – this can be done by way of a Change of Name Deed drafted by a solicitor. Contact us for further information and advice.
